Installation
The Golden Designs Arosa is designed for outdoor installation on a level, stable, properly prepared foundation. Its rounded barrel structure is assembled from individual cedar staves supported by three wooden cradles and secured with stainless steel bands. The manufacturer's assembly manual recommends three adults to safely position and assemble the cabin components.
Electrical Requirements: The included 6.0 kW Harvia heater requires a dedicated 240V/30A electrical circuit. If the optional 8.0 kW heater is selected, the manufacturer specifies 240V/40A service. The integrated accent lighting requires a separate 120V/15A electrical connection. This sauna is not plug-and-play. A licensed electrician must complete the heater installation and verify wire sizing, breaker requirements, grounding, and applicable electrical codes using the current heater instructions.
Foundation and Site Preparation: Position the sauna on a flat surface capable of supporting the assembled structure and occupants. The manufacturer recommends a properly constructed concrete base or solid wood deck. If installing over ground-level materials, the support cradles must be adequately supported to prevent settling or uneven movement. Provide appropriate drainage and confirm that the surrounding area remains accessible for maintenance.
Assembly: The installation process involves positioning the support cradles, securing the lower cedar staves, assembling the front and rear wall panels, installing the remaining barrel staves, and tightening the stainless steel bands. Interior benches, backrests, lighting connections, and the electric heater must be installed according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Outdoor Weather Protection: The Arosa is designed for outdoor use, but natural cedar may allow some moisture to pass between the staves during rain or changing weather conditions. The manufacturer recommends a waterproof rain cover or placement beneath a covered structure to reduce water infiltration when the sauna is not operating. A rain cover is identified as an optional accessory in the owner's manual.
Final Preparation: Before assembly, confirm the latest manufacturer dimensions, foundation requirements, electrical access, heater safety clearances, ventilation, local permits, and delivery access. Do not operate the sauna until all electrical connections and heater safety requirements have been completed and verified.
Operation and Usage
The Golden Designs Arosa provides a traditional sauna experience using an electric heater and heated sauna stones. The Harvia heater's built-in controls manage the heating cycle, while a separate interior LED panel operates the accent lighting. The manufacturer lists an ideal operating range of 170°F–185°F and a maximum temperature of up to 190°F, although actual performance depends on installation and environmental conditions.
-
Starting the Sauna: Turn on the Harvia electric heater using its built-in controls and select the desired temperature and operating settings according to the heater manual. Allow sufficient time for the cabin and sauna stones to heat before entering.
-
Temperature Selection: Choose a temperature appropriate for your experience and comfort. The manufacturer's listed ideal range is 170°F–185°F, but beginners should begin with lower temperatures and shorter sessions.
-
Traditional Sauna Steam: When permitted by the heater instructions, carefully apply small amounts of clean water to the heated sauna stones using the included bucket and scoop. This produces temporary bursts of steam and increases humidity. Never pour water directly onto electrical components.
-
Accent Lighting: Use the interior LED control panel to operate the illuminated backrests. The owner's manual identifies the "Light 2" button as the functioning lighting control for this barrel sauna model.
-
Session Timing: The owner's manual describes sessions of approximately 5–15 minutes. Use the included sandglass to help monitor time, remain hydrated, and exit the sauna whenever you become uncomfortable.
-
Ventilation: Keep the sauna's ventilation openings unobstructed during operation and follow the manufacturer's airflow recommendations.
-
After Each Session: Turn off the heater according to its operating instructions and allow the cabin to cool. Wipe moisture from the interior benches and floor, and allow the cedar surfaces to dry properly.
-
Ongoing Maintenance: Periodically inspect the stainless steel bands, door hardware, and wooden structure. Because cedar naturally expands and contracts with changing conditions, the barrel bands may require occasional adjustment according to the manufacturer's instructions.
-
Operating Breaks: The owner's manual specifies shutting the sauna down for at least one hour after every four hours of operation to help prevent overheating and premature equipment deterioration.
Important: Never leave the heater operating unattended, place combustible materials near it, or use the sauna during an electrical storm. Avoid alcohol before or during use, stay hydrated, and exit immediately if you experience dizziness, nausea, weakness, or discomfort. Consult a healthcare professional before use if you have medical conditions or concerns about high-temperature exposure.
