Installation
The Golden Designs Klosters is designed for outdoor installation on a stable, level, properly prepared surface. The barrel sauna uses interlocking cedar staves secured with stainless steel bands and supported by wooden cradles. Assembly involves positioning the support cradles, building the barrel structure, installing the front and rear panels, securing the benches and backrests, and mounting the heater and its protective guard.
Electrical Requirements: The included 8.0 kW electric heater requires a dedicated 240V/40A electrical service. The integrated accent-light system requires a separate 120V/15A electrical service. This is not a standard plug-and-play sauna. A licensed electrician must complete the heater wiring and verify the manufacturer's installation instructions, wire sizing, breaker requirements, and applicable electrical codes.
Foundation and Site Preparation: Install the sauna on a level structure capable of supporting the assembled unit and its occupants. The manufacturer recommends a suitable concrete base or solid wood deck, with appropriate support beneath the barrel cradles. Avoid placing the sauna directly onto unsupported soil or grass where settling, standing water, or uneven support could affect the structure.
Outdoor Protection: Although designed for outdoor use, the cedar structure naturally responds to moisture and changing weather conditions. The manufacturer recommends a waterproof cover or covered installation area to reduce water infiltration and protect the sauna when not in use. Proper ventilation, drainage, and regular exterior maintenance are important for preserving the cabin.
Assembly Planning: The owner's manual recommends three adults for assembly. Confirm the final product dimensions, installation clearances, electrical access, heater safety distances, and any applicable permits before beginning the project. All heater installation and electrical connections must follow the current manufacturer documentation.
Operation and Usage
The Golden Designs Klosters provides a traditional sauna experience using an electric heater and heated sauna stones. The heater's built-in controls manage the heating cycle, while the separate interior LED panel operates the accent lighting. The manufacturer lists an ideal sauna temperature range of 170°F–185°F, with a maximum listed temperature of up to 190°F.
-
Starting the Sauna: Turn on the electric heater using its built-in controls and select the desired temperature or operating setting according to the heater manual. Allow sufficient time for the sauna and stones to heat before entering.
-
Temperature Selection: The manufacturer lists 170°F–185°F as an ideal operating range. Beginners should start with a lower temperature and shorter sessions, increasing gradually according to comfort and the heater manufacturer's instructions.
-
Traditional Steam: When permitted by the heater instructions, carefully pour small amounts of clean water onto the heated sauna stones using the included bucket and scoop. This creates a temporary increase in humidity. Never pour water onto electrical components or surfaces other than the designated sauna stones.
-
Interior Lighting: Use the interior LED control panel to activate the illuminated backrests and adjust the atmosphere independently of the sauna heater.
-
Session Timing: Use the included sandglass to help track time in the sauna. Take breaks as needed, remain hydrated, and discontinue a session immediately if you experience dizziness, nausea, weakness, or discomfort.
-
After Each Session: Switch off the heater according to the manufacturer's instructions and allow the sauna to cool. Wipe away excess moisture, keep the interior clean, and allow the cabin to dry properly after use.
-
Ongoing Maintenance: Periodically inspect the cedar structure, stainless steel bands, door hardware, and exterior weather protection. Natural wood may expand and contract as conditions change. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for tightening bands, cleaning surfaces, and maintaining the heater and stones.
Important: Never leave the sauna operating unattended or place combustible objects near the heater. Do not operate the sauna during electrical storms or if its electrical components are damaged. Follow the heater manufacturer's clearance and operating requirements, and consult a healthcare professional before using high-temperature saunas if you have relevant medical conditions.
